The subject of my graduation work is the painting of interiors. I worked with the technique of oil on canvas. The various interiors are stylistically different, but they share a similar atmosphere. My goal was to capture the atmosphere of calm and quiet that you feel when you enter an empty, sun-drenched room. And also the kind of nostalgia I got when exploring my grandparents’ attic, where I found objects from my childhood, now long forgotten and covered in dust. Bookcases are an important and recurring motif. Besides the fact that I find books visually fascinating, I also see bookcases as silent worlds of a thousand stories that I like to hide in. Some of my paintings include references to artists who I find inspiring: for instance, there are small reproductions of Böcklin’s Isle of the Dead, Friedrich Nietzsche’s room, and the books of J. W. Goethe. My main inspiration for painting comes from Edward Hopper, Vilhelm Hammershøi, and Mamma Andersson.
