In her graduation work, Veronika Gabrielová focuses on the subject of enculturation. She takes a broader view to the complexity of the “process of socialisation”, which she sees through the lens of her personal experience with local and more distant cultures. The chronological scope of her study of this subject spans from her early childhood to the present day, and includes reactions to souvenirs from trips to Asia, regular seaside vacations, holidays and the associated cultural and social rituals, traveling, study exchanges, working abroad, the relationships and situational constellations within her large family, aesthetic perception in relation to taste (with kitsch as its constant shadow), culinary experiences, and more. All this has influenced her wide range of emotions and the subjective distance of her drawings as a whole (sentiment, resentment, distance, critical position). Her works include traditional artisanal approaches, so besides drawings made with permanent markers, she also uses embroidery or stitching, which give the subject matter a concrete and material form. The planned outcome of her graduation work is an installation consisting of twenty-eight medium-format and twelve large-format drawings that can be considered a self-exploratory anthropological meditation that uses the medium of the individual to present the positive and problematic aspects of a free society.
