The intermedia-based approach to the architectural conversion of the Baroque former parish house in the town of Svárov into a senior citizens’ home involves a broader discussion of the nature of aging. On the one hand, the subject is opened up by the house itself, its inner structures, its relationship to the place, and its role within the town; but on the other hand, it asks questions regarding going beyond the minimum framework of home identity without making it absolute. I design chairs, stables, cupboards, salt dishes, ashtrays, urns, and selected elements of standardized furnishings to which we don’t a priori have any deep emotional ties like we do to plates or bowls, and place them on the same level as architecture.
