An ideal plan is the fulfilment of possibilities. It is a breath of fresh air, innovative urbanism. It does not mean ridding ourselves of all our problems. It rests in strengthening the things that make a city unique.
Ponds? Acropolises? The challenge of an empty in-between?
Wide-open views of the mountains.
I combine values through axes, arterials, new blocks of buildings. I define the boundaries of the city: directly and concretely. The kind that preserve the benefits of living in the city: safety, infrastructure, mass transit…
What does it mean to see ahead? How will we be thinking in ten, twenty, fifty years? I don’t plan according to current trends in politics or urban planning: they are just a subset of the proposal, one of several variations. The city will continue to experience periods of left and right, neo-liberal and egalitarian, growth and stagnation, density and spreading out. The ideal must encompass this dialectic.
